Who We Are

Quilted Gardens and Nursery started as an outgrowth of collecting and growing hostas, interesting perennials unusual trees and shrubs, and an interest in unusual conifers. We are an independent nursery specializing in unusual and collector perennials, trees, Japanese maples, shrubs and conifers.
 

Though we have created gardens that are dedicated to dwarf and miniature conifers, we provide more than just dwarf material to our customers. Unusual conifers, trees and shrubs are a rapidly expanding portion of our nursery and gardens. Many variegated, gold, unusual form, and size (from dwarf to standard size) conifers, Japanese maples, trees and shrubs are available. We are in the process of rebuilding our gardens since moving to our 20 acre property south of Indianola in the summer of 2019, after spending over 20 years in Des Moines. Flowering trees and shrubs are often overlooked for landscapes, so we are providing them to our customers, including Magnolias, redbuds, hydrangeas, hardy hibiscus and other flowering favorites.
 

Perennials fill out gardens, from in-ground perennial offerings to container gardens we provide a unique selection of plants, from Itoh peonies, peonies, and other unique flowering perennials to sedums, sempervivums, succulents, and other xeric plants that require less water. With container gardening expanding we have a selection of tropicals, Mangaves, and other unique container plants.
  

In addition to plant material we carry unique garden art: ceramic birdbaths, statement and unique ceramic pots, and other accessories for the garden. Services we provide are landscape consultation and design, landscape installation, speaking to groups, and seminar talks.
